Vote Alex Lee for Pinner South!

We are very pleased to announce that Alex Lee is our Green Party candidate in the upcoming Pinner South by-election on Thursday 14th October.  The by-election has been called by Harrow Council due to the sad death of Pinner South Conservative Councillor Chris Mote in July.  Read more about Alex and his candidacy below. 

Alex on why he is standing as the Green Pinner South candidate:

"My name is Alex Lee, and I am running to be the Green Party’s first councillor in Harrow for Pinner South. I have lived in Harrow my whole life, growing up in the Harrow Weald area, attending Grimsdyke Primary School in Hatch End and Nower Hill High School in North Harrow.   Since graduating, I have worked as a tech writer for a range of national newspapers.  I have spent many weekends in the beautiful green spaces found in Pinner, enjoying in particular Pinner Memorial Park, so it is only natural that I now live here. 

With this election, we have the opportunity to change Pinner South for the better.  As a Pinner resident, I want to protect the environment and precious habitats that we have here. As your councillor, I will champion the many green spaces we have, ensuring they are invested in and that there is joined up thinking about their future maintenance.  I will work towards tackling ongoing littering and fly tipping to ensure that we preserve the health and safety of the local area for both the wellbeing of both the community and wildlife.  I will promote tree-planting and rewilding schemes both on our streets and in our parks to help mitigate air pollution, and provide a place for nature to live and thrive.  I will also look to help improve air quality in Pinner South, extending 20mph driving zones on some roads, whilst also working to make them safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

With the ever-increasing cost of heating our homes, I will ensure that we maximise the opportunity to retrofit existing houses with more efficient and affordable solutions.   I will advocate that any new housing approved in the area must be built to the highest environmental standards, whilst also taking into consideration the extra pressures it will place on already overstretched local services.  An example is the Pinner Grove estate, where I believe instead of building new homes and felling mature trees as proposed by Harrow Council, we need to make sure that the social housing we already have are fit for purpose, something that residents tell me is currently in dire need of repair and improvement.

Underpinning all of the above is the need to ensure we drive forward with tackling the climate change crisis, pressurising the council to meet the commitments it has made regarding achieving carbon neutrality and energy efficiency.

Up and down the country, residents have seen what having even just one Green councillor on a local council can do.  I will actively work to hold the current two party dominated Labour and Conservative Harrow Council to account right across the whole spectrum of council managed services.  I will not be looking to score political points but to achieve improvements that benefit the residents of Harrow and in particular those in Pinner South.

If you vote for me on Thursday 14th October, you will get a councillor who will stand up for Pinner and for the planet."
