Introducing Monika Sobiecki your Green candidate for West Harrow

Monika Sobiecki West Harrow Candidate

I am the Green Party candidate for West Harrow. I spent my childhood in the local area, and attended St. Anselm's Catholic Primary School on Harrow-on-the-Hill. As a young person I spent a number of years living in Islington, where I was active with the Islington Green Party and saw first hand what a huge difference even one Green Councillor can make (Caroline Russell, who is a Highbury Councillor and a London Assembly Member).

I am a barrister and partner at human rights and civil liberties law firm Bindmans LLP. I am passionate about getting lawyers more involved in the climate emergency, and have worked with The Chancery Lane Project and helped set up the Lawyers for Extinction Rebellion (XR Lawyers) group.

I have recently moved back into the local area and have settled down in West Harrow, just a stone's throw away from West Harrow Recreation Ground - and the controversial 265 Ridgeway Development. I have written to the Planning Inspectorate to oppose the Harrow Gospel Hall Trust's appeal against the refusal of planning permission since moving here and, if elected, would commit to doing everything possible to fight against the Development on behalf of local people because of the damage it will do to the ecology and unique character of the area.

If elected, I would hold the Council to account (which is currently Labour-run) to do more to tackle the climate and ecological emergency, such as pushing for proper insulation and affordable heating measures that will help with the cost of living crisis, and campaigning to protect Harrow's many parks and green spaces.
