Emma Wallace, GLA Candidate for Brent and Harrow

Emma says "I have lived in Harrow for over ten years and in that time, I have experienced at first hand the vital public services, the wide array of cultural events and the green, open spaces accessible to all in Brent and Harrow. I am proud to have been selected as the GLA Candidate for Brent and Harrow and will aim to make sure both boroughs continue to be dynamic, open and multicultural places to live.

I joined the Green Party in 2014 and since then I have been involved in both local and national politics, standing twice as the parliamentary candidate for Harrow East, as well as a candidate in the 2018 Harrow council elections. I have been actively in campaigns to help defend Green spaces from development and support the rich biodiversity that we have in the borough. I have most recently been involved in a successful bid to stop mature trees being felled on the new Harrow Kodak development. I have fought to protect public services from closure, including Harrow’s local libraries, NHS Walk-in-centres and most recently, the Wembley Ambulance Station in Brent. I volunteer with Re-engage to support older people in the community and I have fought to protect vital mental health services from closure, such as The Bridge café in Harrow.

I am standing as a working person who lives in Harrow, who believes in fairness, inclusivity and everyone having a voice. I will be the first GLA Green Party candidate from the Harrow side of our joint constituency, bringing new perspectives, ideas and focus to the role. The Green Party is committed to fighting social inequality and injustice and I would work to represent all living in London, not just the privileged few. I will endeavour to represent the diversity of Brent and Harrow, listening to the needs of constituents, working to understand what is important to them and reflecting these back in my campaign.

As we are facing a number of interconnected emergencies, from COVID, to increasing social inequality and escalating climate change, I believe we that we need bold and radical action and it is the Green Party that has the policies to achieve rapid social, economic and environmental transformation. As the 2021 Green Party GLA candidate, I will clearly communicate these policies and be a strong voice for Brent and Harrow, standing up for local concerns and pressing for changes, both locally and London wide. I am keen to provide people the opportunity to vote Green and promote the many fantastic Green policies the party has, from Universal Basic Income to the Green New Deal."
