I have lived in Harrow for the last 30 years, and have grown to know the area very well. Harrow is a busy and diverse borough, one of its great strengths, with many fine green spaces and areas of interest. However, for the last 12 years this dynamic part of London has suffered enormous cutbacks from Central Government funding - an extraordinary 97% cut from its 2010 levels - resulting in a real deterioration in quality of services. From neglected parks to threadbare service provision, the local council has struggled to remain afloat, desperately seeking out other means of income. Consequently, huge new property developments have been flagged through, very often against local wishes, but a source of precious revenue for the council. This is part of the bigger issue, but as a member of the Green Party if I were elected I would do my utmost to consult with local feeling to represent these interests, aligned with the Party's commitment to sound environmental care and management. Harrow Green Party is engaged with many of the key issues in the borough, from challenging the Council on the huge council tax increases to the wider Climate Emergency and the part we can play in addressing it.
In Marlborough, I would encourage traffic calming measures where applicable as many of the quieter streets are used excessively as short cuts, at great inconvenience to residents. All of my children attended Marlborough Primary, a school that has long been at the heart of the ward's community, and the steps so far taken to encourage more children and family members to walk and cycle to school is a policy which all of my now adult children very much approve. Parts of the ward have also experienced high density building development, and within these zones I would seek to promote and preserve green space areas, vital for well being and leisure alike, beside their intrinsic natural value. I hope you will vote for the Greens in this election and help make a real difference at the grassroots level to the way our politics are conducted.
